An absolute joy to read! 5 stars.

Let me begin by thanking the author for writing a book that was a pleasure and an absolute joy to read. It has been a long time since I’ve enjoyed a mythological fiction this much!

Pradyumna: Son of Krishna
takes a rather obscure character from Mahabharata and brings him to life in a brilliantly written story. Before reading this book, I was aware of the existence of Pradyumna, but only as the son of Krishna. I hadn’t even read the Amar Chitra Katha version of his story.

It took no more than the first couple of pages to completely hook me. The beginning of the book has different stories that run parallel to each other. It speaks to Ms. Narayanan’s talent that at no point did the stories seem muddled or suffer from a lack of continuity. She weaves the separate stories masterfully till they are ready to merge and become the saga of Pradyumna.

I enjoyed the fact that she combined historical information with fiction seamlessly. The reader would be hard-pressed to tell when the mythology ends and the fiction begins. There are some historical (or mythological) accuracies that I was grateful that she kept. For instance, she did not turn Pradyumna into a key figure in the Mahabharata war. Nor did she show him interacting with the Kauravas or Pandavas, keeping it accurate in that context.
The story was very entertaining and the book completely un-put-down-able. I cannot wait for the conclusion of the story and am looking forward to it.
