‘A masterpiece focusing on the vastness of myth’ – Shivani Agrawal #TBC
Read online here.
I am someone who loves mythology. I personally love reading different versions on Mahabharata. This book is a sequel to Pradyumna. It’s a must read for mythology lovers! It’s a masterpiece!
HIGHLIGHTS
The cover is intriguing and attractive and if you look clearly and ponder it signifies that no matter if all the things around you appears bleak and dark there will always be something holding on to you to not give up. There is always something positive in every situation. “Remember for every Duryodhana there is Vikarna. For every samba there is Pradyumna.”
My interest was piqued up from the prologue itself where the author has made a very clever comparison between draupadi and Chandika.
Picking up one scene from the whole book is a task in itself. But since I have to pick I will pick 2 of my favorites:
One was when Pradyumna and all the members of Pandava’s and kauravas family met their dead ones that scene was so well narrated that it bought tears to my eyes.
The battle between Yama and Pradyumna was very well explained and I could feel the anticipation growing in me even at 1a.m as to what’s going to happen next.
I loved how Krishna had cleared Pradyumna’s confusion related to Dharma when Gandhari had requested Pradyumna to bring back Vikarna back to life. “Gandhari remained blind to duryodhana’s sins & allowed his arrogance and envy to grow unchecked. Even though she knew that her brother shakuni is evil, she continued to to give him unfettered access to her son. She was not weak like her husband Dhritarashtra. Her grief is the result of her own inaction.
“Reminds me of a story we all must have heard in our childhood days about the story of the son who starts with stealing a mere rubber and gradually ends up involved in a bank robbery. And during his last wish before his death he cuts his mothers tongue as she never stopped him.”
I totally loved the scene where Maya comes with women with their own army. I think that’s something a modern woman can relate. It’s time we give it back to society.
The visualisation treat makes it a complete package. A Well researched book which will make you ponder upon the vastness of the mythology! Though the book is fast paced but you can easily relate to the tales from one setting to another with ease.
